The Children of James P Walters & Alice Jane Brown

Barnesville, NC

The family of James P Walters and Alice Jane Brown, really intrigued me, because out of 11 children that crew up down at Princess Anne (Barnesville, NC) all of the children left their home but one son Franklin H, Walters. The other children either moved out of state or married and moved several miles from the “old home place”.
There were also stories of murder and kidnapping in the children of James P and Alice Jane. We are still doing research on these stories to find out what happened and the outcome.
This is what family genealogy research is all about.

Check back often to see what we have found.

James Pleasant Walters was the 11th child of William Walters Jr and Absela Pittman Spear. He was born in Robeson County on October 23, 1830 and died May 29, 1913 in Robeson County. He married Alice Jane (Elsie) Brown from Columbus County around 1850. Her parents were William Wynn Brown and Winnifred M Williamson.

In the Will of his Father William Walters Jr, in item 6th of that will he was left the "Old Place". Here is that excerpt.

12/15/1930-Letter written by Frank Walters, of East Lumberton, NC, to brother states "Gues you knew I was seventh five years old Sunday was a week ago."

Update

We have been trying to figure out the death date of Alice Jane Brown Walters, as she was alive when her husband James P Walters died in May 1913. Also the letter written above by J.S. Long of Barnesville to Radford J Walters in Surrency, Ga dated 11/14/1915, we know she is alive in Nov 1915.
We wrote the State Arhives in Raleigh, North Carolina to see just by chance if they had a death certificate for a Alice J Walters who died between 1915 and 1920.

They did and we now have her death date of Jan 17, 1916.

This death certificate opens more questions, we were told back in the 1980's that James P Walters and his wife were buried in the old Walters cemetery on Princess Anne Rd in Barnesville. The obit of James P Walters which is below and was in the Robesonian newspaper in 1913 says he was buried in the Daniels cemetery, we can find no record of a Daniels Cemetery in that area. Now after receiving Alice J Walters death certificate, it says she was buried in Columbus County in a home made coffin. We will have to do further checking to see if this Daniels Cemetery is in Columbus County.
